Tips and tricks to liberate your wardrobe.
Do you clothes still bring you joy?
As we break free from the shackles of winter and spring begins to blossom its is a great time of year to liberate your wardrobe!
De-cluttering anywhere in our house can be challenging – but it can be especially difficult when it comes to our clothes and wardrobe. We often have emotions, memories and feelings linked to our clothes and this can make it even harder to let go.
So here are these few simple steps to de-clutter your wardrobe!â
- De-cluttering is easier when firstly you are deciding what to keep rather than what to throw away,
- Often we find ourselves reaching for the same set of clothes, time and again, those might be your capsule wardrobe , try them on and make sure they still feel great.
- Start with these few clothes that reflected your personal style.
- Expand on these by adding items that coordinate, think âoutfitâ.
- Sort these clothes by category – tops, jeans, shirts etc. and which are hung and which will be folded
- Place these loved items on the hangers and for a more harmonize effect organise them in your wardrobe by colour, moving from white all the way to black.
- Organising the other items on the lower, easier to access shelves.
Now the clothes you are left with:
- You will have last seasons clothes to pack and some spring/summer clothes to reacquaint yourself with.
- Last seasons clothes need to be sorted through. Be brave – there is no point storing clothes you did not wear last season.
- Those that you wore, check that they are spotlessly clean and use vacuum bags and â boxes to store. Woolen items should be folded to ensure they retain their shape.
- Moth prevention is also vital as we see many beautiful woolen ruined with nibble holes.
This seasons clothes from last year, ask yourself does it fit right, and how does it make me feel?â If you have forgotten then try it on. Just remember a lot has happen since last spring as we experience life and you are not the same person. Allow and accept yourself as you are!
Perhaps consider, if you didnât wear it last spring/summer itâs unlikely you are going to wear it this spring/summer. Does it fit and does it bring you joy.
Rather than hanging on to it please understand that your clothes do devalue with each passing season.
